Winners of the "Music for Pleasure Shield"
Southend Music Festival 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002
The band is now the premier Youth Symphonic Wind Band for south-east Essex catering for young woodwind, brass, and percussion (inc. string bass) players from Southend-on-Sea and the surrounding area.
It encourages musicians of approximately grade 4 standard and upward, and places a high emphasis on playing excellence alongside the social enjoyment of group music making. It is deliberately organised to build on the work done by school bands and not to be in competition with them and its repertoire of music reflects this by its difficulty.
Weekly rehearsals are held during term-time.
The dates for the 3 main Concerts each year are published in advance, as well as other engagements by invitation. New members will receive a warm welcome.
The Band has recently come under the umbrella of the Southend Music Services. For further information, please contact the Director of Music, Tony Orchover:
